  1. Description
    1. General

The Automatic Rail Welding Machine AT 4006 is a multi-purpose, light machine for repair welding, build-up, etc. in frogs, diamonds and switch area of normal tracks and LRT embedded tracks. It can be used for submerged arc and open arc welding. Solid wire, flux covered wire or welding tapes can be used as filler material. Additional welding equipment is required for welding tapes.

The actual Automatic Welding Machine is mounted on a special carriage usable on embedded or standard track (track gauge adjustable). Due to its compact size and low weight, it can be set on or off the rails (especially LRT track) in seconds. This ensures economical operation even while the trains are running! A single operator controls the machine.

1.2 Running gear

The running gear with the track gauge adjustment consists of a steel structure, drive, drive motor, on and off tracking device and mounting structure for the Automatic Welding Machine.

      1. Track Gauge Adjustment

With the help of a spindle screw, the running gear can be infinitely adjusted from 38-1/2" (980 mm) to 59" (1500 mm) track gauge.

1.2.2 Drive

The running gear is equipped with four plastic wheels driven by precision roller chains and is therefore electrically insulated against the rails. The two wheel sets are rigidly interconnected by a straight-through splined shaft.

A mechanical, non-slip clutch permits freewheeling of the machine for rapid positioning of the welding head at the beginning or an interruption of the welding procedure.

1.2.3 Traction motor

The traction motor is equipped with an infinitely adjustable planetary gearing and is driven by a worm gearing via a chain to the free-wheel clutch located under the running gear. The necessary feed rate can be adjusted or changed by means of a hand wheel on the planetary gearing. The motor, which is protected against overheating by a thermal contact, can be switched on and off separately by a control switch.

1.2.4 Rail disengagement device

The two pneumatic wheels arranged transversely to the track axis are interconnected and are extended by means of an eccentric lever, enabling the machine to be raised and withdrawn from the track. Where the rails lie free wooden beams (or similar) must be placed under the wheels at right angles to the rail axis.
