Houston is the largest city in the state of Texas and the fourth largest in the United States. The city covers more than 600 square miles and is the county seat of Harris County, the third most populous in the country. Houston has a population of more than 2 million. Since January 1, 2004 a light rail system has started operation under the name of Metro Rail. The length of the system is 7.5 miles, which has 16 stations. The operator is Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas. The light rail vehicles were supplied by Siemens Transportation Systems with overhead electrification. Railquip, Inc. supplied and installed 3 truck turntables, 1 mobile truck scissor lift table, 1 set of 8 movable car hoist, 1 hi-rail equipped trailer, 1 set of portable hydraulic rerailing equipment.

Metro de Valencia

Metro de Valencia - Valencia, Venezuela:

Valencia is the capital city of Carabobo State in Venezuela.The city is an economic hub that contains Venezuela’s top industries and manufacturing companies.The population of Valencia is approximately 1.2 million and it is expected to grow dramatically in years to come.

The first line of the light rail metro system partly underground, is getting close to completion. The first 6.2 kilometer long stretch will include 7 stations. Platforms are 120 meter long, 4.7 kilometer underground between Lasferias and Cedeno (bored tunnel). The maintenance facility is located next to the southern Talmenos Monumental.

Six trains were built by Siemens Transportation Systems in California and the design is based on the vehicles used in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.  
Permanently coupled pairs can operate as single units or be coupled to up to 4 unit train sets.  Trains are planned to run every 4 minutes.  
Regular service is scheduled to start in March 2007.  Railquip, Inc. supplied and installed all of the maintenance equipment necessary for maintaining the LRV’s and track.

Maracaibo Project

Metro de Maracaibo - Maracaibo, Venezuela:

At the western Venezuelan end the city of Maracaibo, capital of the Zulia State, is located.
It is the second largest city in Venezuela.The population is approximately 1.3 million. It is
one of the countries top oil centers. Maracaibo is located on the coast of the lake named
after the city.  Cars, buses and trucks with their constant flow of manufactured goods and
agricultural product depend on a ferry system between the city and the eastern shore with their
roads to connect to the countries highway system.

The first phase of Metro de Maracaibo is currently under construction and will be 6.5 kilometer long,along Avenue Sabaneta with 6 stations, 4 at grade and 2 elevated. The first station is located next to the maintenance facility. The cars will be supplied by Siemens Transportation Systems and are designed for a maximum speed of 70 kilometer per hour, average travel speed will be at 35 kilometer per hour. Each train will consist of 3 20-meter long cars designed for overhead 750 volt DC power supply. Railquip, Inc. supplied and installed all of the maintenance equipment necessary for maintaining the cars and track.
