Tren Urbano Project – San Juan, Puerto Rico:
San Juan is the capital of the largest city of Puerto Rico located in the northeastern part of the island. The city and municipality of the same name in which the city is located are named after St. John the Baptist. It is the oldest European settlement in the United States Territory. A heavy rail system, “Tren Urbano”, connects Bayamon and Sagrado Corazon (17.2 kilometers). Railquip, Inc. supplied and installed all of the maintenance equipment necessary for maintaining cars and track. The system was officially opened for revenue service on June 6, 2005 transporting 7.3 million passengers in 1 year.
