SAFETY SUPPORTING JACK 66-TON CAPACITY
Railquip is proud to introduce an addition to their line of jacking equipment for car and locomotive shops,
the 66-Ton Capacity Safety Supporting Jack. In many locomotive workshops and car repair facilities,
the locomotive and car bodies have to be lifted by an overhead crane for truck exchange.
In this case safety rules and regulations request measures to eliminate the danger of accidents
in the event of a rope breakage. In addition to injury, a falling vehicle body would also cause
an immense financial burden. To prevent this from happening, Railquip introduces
a special load supporting jack to be used in car and locomotive shops.
Such jacks have already operated successfully at maintenance facilities in Europe.
During preparation for the lift of a car and locomotive body by overhead crane,
the four jacks are positioned underneath the lifting pads. By opening the manual valve,
the hydraulic piston of the supporting jack extends until it touches the body frame.
While lifting the body with the crane, the position of the supporting jack piston follows automatically.
In the case of a rope tear, the retraction of the piston is interrupted immediately by an integrated locking valve,
therefore the falling of the vehicle body is avoided.
The movable jack base of the supporting jack is spring-loaded and will allow for the jack base
to firmly sit on the shop floor when under load. When under load, the piston of the supporting jack is retracted by
operating the installed hand pump. These jacks have a total stroke of 17.7 inches with a load of 66 tons.
No external power unit for operating the jack is needed.
